GENERAL EVENT RULES
THIS IS NOT A RACE! There are no prizes for driving fast or arriving first. In fact, driving fast kind of defeats the purpose of planning the route through beautiful scenery and the socializing opportunities at the checkpoints.
All participants must register between 10:15 and 10:45 a.m. on Saturday August 16, 2008. You will be given your tour kit at the registration and the kit will contain your first route card and emergency contact information for the organizers, so don't be late or it could be a lonely and confusing drive for you.
Safety first! Anyone driving like a hoon will be asked to leave the group and find their own way. As well, said drivers will not only never be invited back for other Fast Cars For Charity events, but will also be talked about in a derogatory fashion for years to come. We are out to have a safe, fun event and we expect all participants to behave like adults. We are not kidding.
Help others in need! If you spot a (insert name of obviously inferior car here) stopped on the side of the road with the 4 ways on and the hood up, that is not your cue to roll down the window and yell insults at the stricken vehicle. Stop to render assistance. Remember, no matter how much better you think your (insert name of obviously superior car here) is, it just might be you that needs a helping hand in the future. Having said that, if said vehicle is stranded because of obvious driver not-so-smartedness (eg. empty fuel tank), feel free to nominate said driver for a booby prize and to file the incident away for the open mocking period during the event wrap-up dinner on Sunday afternoon. Photographic evidence of displays of not-so-smartedness will be of great interest to event organizers.
Be friendly with the other cars! Swap co-pilots for various sections of the tour and make new friends. Besides being a charity event to raise money for a great cause this is also a social event, so don't be a loner.
Be gracious! Our sponsors made this event possible. Please support them and thank them for their support of a great time and a great cause!
Be legal! All participants will be required to sign a waiver acknowledging, among other things, that they have a valid drivers' license and proper insurance for their vehicle.
POKER RUN RULES
Every car is allowed to draw one card at each checkpoint marked on the map, starting with drawing your first card at the registration desk prior to leaving. When we say "one card", we mean one card . Don't even think of trying to trade, beg or bribe your way into a new card from the card giving official. Having said that, negotiation (also referred to as trading, begging and bribing) with other participants is not only allowed, but encouraged! Meet your friends and neighbors. Do your very best to convince them that a 3 of clubs is waaaayyy better than that pesky ace of spades they're holding. Show what a great person you are by offering to trade your pair of sixes for their jack and queen of diamonds.
Keep all your cards safe and do not lose them, as replacements will not be awarded. The judge will not take your word that you had 4 aces and 3 kings if, in fact, you do not have 4 aces and 3 kings in hand at the end of the run. We do not care how honest and trustworthy you or your co-pilot swear you are. You're a grown up - hang on to your cards. Cleverly drawn substitute cards will not be accepted - even if they're very artistic and drawn on money.
At the event wrap-up dinner at the end of day 2, prizes will be awarded for the best hands. If you were able to follow directions and find all the checkpoints during the appropriate time windows, you will have drawn a total of between 5 and 7 cards over the two days. Your best 5 cards will form your poker hand and will be used to determine the ranking for prizes. You may accept your prize graciously or you may stick out your bottom lip and sulk - the choice is yours. Remember though that pouting during the awards dinner is an open invitation for ridicule, scorn and mocking from your fellow drivers.
The organizers reserve the right to add to, alter or amend
the above rules as they see fit.
